METU CUBE

First CubeSat of METU

MetuCUBE

METUCube is the first CubeSat developed by Middle East Technical University (METU). It is a student-led space project designed and built by the Small Space Systems Laboratory (S3 Lab) under the Department of Aerospace Engineering. As METU’s first satellite mission, METUCube marks a major milestone in the university’s contribution to space technology and education.

About METUCube
METUCube is a 3U CubeSat developed to monitor and assess natural and human-caused disasters such as wildfires, floods, and earthquakes. Equipped with a multispectral imager and a thermal camera, the satellite collects critical Earth observation data to support disaster response, environmental monitoring, and agricultural planning. It also explores the feasibility of early warning systems using space-based data and aims to contribute to sustainable development and disaster resilience.
