About Us
S³ Lab (Small Space Systems Laboratory) is an interdisciplinary, student-led research group within the Aerospace Engineering Department of Middle East Technical University (METU), advised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halil Ersin Söken. The lab currently runs two active space projects: METUCube, METU’s first CubeSat mission, and CHERI Rover, a planetary exploration vehicle. With a team of around 20 enthusiastic undergraduate and graduate students, S³ Lab aims to push the boundaries of small space systems by combining hands-on engineering with cutting-edge research. The lab has successfully become a finalist in prestigious international competitions, such as the APSCO CubeSat Competition (ACC) and the UNISEC Mission Idea Contest (MIC), proudly representing METU on the global stage. S³ Lab also continues to develop its own space infrastructure, including satellite test beds and a planetary rover environment, and welcomes all space enthusiasts to take part in its growing mission.
